Maybe Not Yelp On Steroids

Don’t worry, today’s update is short.

After 2 days of running our booth in SMS and Creamery, we learned 2 things.

  1. Since we did not have a power supply in Creamery, we had to use a power bank to run our ESP32 Microcontroller. We estimated the power bank would last 3 days but due to the climate and constant operation it only lasted 2 days. We need to optimize our power usage for locations that don’t have a power source.
  2. Both Creamery and SMS owners told not to ask about ambiance. When we enquired more, we learned they were already confident in their ambiance. However the quality of food and service varies greatly on the chefs and waiters. These restaurants want our platform to get feedback from every customer so they can fix the things that fluctuate on a daily basis.

With what we learned, we decided to run a separate pipeline to optimize our power consumption so that the power banks will last longer.

On the business side, we decided to forget about the public facing review platform until we are a kick-ass feedback platform for restaurants. The moment we focus on displaying the results to the public, we will get very involved in marketing and other gimmicks that will distract us from our real customers: The Restaurants.

So we are going to focus solely on the value we provide to customers by improving the booth quality, on the fly question customization, and detailed analytics for different aspects of the restaurant.

Once we have built a product that the restaurants rely on to maintain their quality, they will push each customer to submit honest feedback and they will have less motivation to tamper with the results.
